Protein bars are a great way of getting a high source of protein quickly and easily through out your day.
If you can afford them - we at HMP definitely do recommend them.
2 things to look out for when buying a protein bar:
- Workout how much protein you are getting to your pound, euro or dollar. As the saying goes - "you want the best bang for your buck" - well in this case you want the most protein for your buck.
- Beware of high sugar content - often found in chocolate-protein-bars, they may be big yummy chocolate flavour but some often have a high amount of sugar which won't help if you want to stay lean.
The Official HMP Protein Bar
Here is an extremely simple way of making your own protein bars. The beauty of this recipe is that it can't go wrong - you can add as much or little of each ingredients as you like.
For maximum protein add 3-4 scoops of whey - if you can't afford to use that much of your precious supplement you can just use 1 scoop.
- Whey or casein protein powder
- Porridge oats
- Sunflower Seeds or crushed almonds
- Sultanas (for sweetness)
1Add butter to saucepan.
2Add protein powder porridge oats, seeds/crushed almonds and sultanas into the saucepan and mix well.
3Butter a baking tray to prevent sticking.
4Pour mixture onto the baking tray - *Tip* you can either make the mixture into bar shapes now or add all the mixture together and cut the shapes out later.
5Cook until golden brown, take out oven and let cool.
These are delicious as an alternative to any 'health' snack bar that you can buy and much cheaper.
